Thinking of a Wizard of Oz costume for World Book Day?
Posted on: 15 February 2021 Wizard-of-Oz

There’s no question that World Book Day is looking a different this year. At the time of writing, schools aren’t due to open again until the 8th of March – a few days past World Book Day on the 4th. That means a lot of disappointed children won’t get to dress up with their friends in school in a few weeks. Now, we know that the simple joy of dressing up is a very special feeling for a little girl, so if your little one is determined to enjoy some dressing up for the occasion regardless, we’re determined to help her!

We’ve got a fantastic range of sparkly shoes and gifts to enjoy here on our site, so the choice is up to her. If she needs a bit of inspiration though, might we suggest the Wizard of Oz? It’s a timeless magical tale full of wonder and bravery – exactly the sort that appeals to little girls, and we’ve got plenty of Oz-themed sparkle shoes to choose from!

Silver sparkle shoes for Glinda the Good Witch

On screen, Glinda the Good Witch is a truly enchanting presence, in every sense of the word. Her wisdom and her unflappable calm made her an instant mentor to heroine Dorothy, who – like the rest of us – was spellbound by her elegant appearance. Glinda’s shoes were hidden beneath the folds of her trademark dress, but here at the Sparkle Club we feel like silver would have been very much her colour.

If your little girl has her eyes set on being Glinda for World Book Day, we recommend these ivory white Lillian sparkly bridesmaid shoes, with iridescent white glitter at the back and heel, and an adjustable strap for comfort. It goes perfectly with a long silver or white dress, and if she wants to achieve the full effect, she might love our flower girl tiara, studded with diamantes for a wonderfully pretty look.

Black sparkle shoes for the Wicked Witch of the West

Of course, if your little girl loves the more mischievous side of magic, she might prefer to appear as the Wicked Witch of the West! As the polar opposite to Glinda, to some she’s a much more fascinating character. If your little girl likes the idea of dressing up as the Wicked Witch, we suggest our Kate black and silver glitter heel shoes – they’re beautifully dark and mysterious, with the subtle glitter giving them a subtly magical touch. All your little girl needs is a black dress and a pointed hat, and maybe some green face paint if she decides to go for gold!

Dorothy Gale

If you’re a regular follower of our blog, you might have seen us talking already about why Dorothy appeals for generations of little girls. She’s ordinary in almost every way, but her kindness and bravery distinguishes her from the other characters in the books and movies, helping to make her into a timeless role model who has stood the test of time.

She seems a particularly fitting heroine for the lockdown age – after all, by now we all know that there’s really no place like home!

We’ve got several sets of shoes here at the Sparkle Club which could perfectly fit the role of ruby slippers, but our favourites are the Millie girls red sparkly low heeled party shoes. Their wonderful red colour is appealingly vibrant, and it’s the perfect finishing touch on a simple and easy costume. Perfect for this year’s World Book Day!

These are just a few of our suggestions of course – if she’s already got a vision for her own costume in mind for World Book Day, she can choose her own favourites from the sparkle shoes on our site! And if you’re looking for any advice or for something in particular, don’t hesitate to let us know – just give us a call on 01254 296 554, and we’ll be happy to see what we can do to help.
